Electrical Technician

About the role

Guernsey Electricity is seeking a skilled Electrical Technician to perform inspection, repair and maintenance on high‑voltage (HV) and low‑voltage (LV) electrical plant, cabling and control systems. The role supports the generation sector and requires a commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and rectify defects on electrical plant and equipment to ensure reliable operation.
• Assist with installation of new plant and modifications to existing equipment to enhance performance.
• Deliver work to a high standard, reflecting the craftsmanship expected of the role.
• Produce clear reports on maintenance and repair activities using the company’s IT systems.
• Make minor material purchases as needed for job completion.
• Accept formal safety documents, lead work parties for specific tasks and enforce safe working practices.
• Instruct and train apprentices in current work practices.
• Comply with local legislation on Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities and Data Protection.
• Undertake any other duties as allocated.
• Demonstrate Guernsey Electricity’s core values and behaviours.

Required profile

• Completed a recognised apprenticeship and hold City & Guilds ‘B’ certificate or equivalent.
• Valid Guernsey employment permit.
• Aptitude for practical technical work and willingness to obtain specialist equipment training.

Required skills

• HV and LV electrical systems knowledge.
• Electrical plant maintenance and fault finding.
• Electrical cabling and control systems.
• Use of IT reporting tools.
