Shift Technician

About the role

The Shift Technician works as part of a 24‑hour rotating team alongside a Shift Engineer and a Control Room Operator to ensure the safe and efficient operation of Guernsey Electricity's generation plant.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and operate generating plant to maintain secure power supply.
• Prepare generators for start‑up and carry out shutdown procedures.
• Assist with planned and unplanned maintenance on plant equipment.
• Perform routine operations to keep the plant in an operable condition.
• Support the Shift Engineer with safety checks and system testing.

Required profile

• Qualified mechanical or electrical craftsperson, or equivalent experience.
• Good general mechanical aptitude and knowledge of complex plant systems.
• Ability to report faults and follow safe working practices.
• Willingness to become certified as a ‘Competent Person’ under company safety rules.
