Trainee Distribution Engineer

About the role

The Trainee Distribution Engineer will support distribution operational engineering activities across fault restoration, maintenance and asset replacement projects. Work is performed in office, on‑site and on public roadways in all weather conditions, requiring reasonable fitness for handling heavy test equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out fault finding, investigation, repairs and modifications to conveyance and supply systems.
• Arrange and execute distribution maintenance activities and deliver asset replacement projects.
• Assist with system‑related projects on power stations and the distribution network to improve reliability.
• Support high and medium voltage switching and preparation of safety documentation.
• Collect and input substation data into the plant database and liaise with developers, contractors and authorities.

Required profile

• Working toward an HNC/HND qualification in electrical and electronics or similar.
• At least 5 years post‑training experience with distribution systems.
• Pursuing a formal safety qualification such as IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH.
• Aiming to become a Distribution Authorised Person under GE Safety Rules.
• Self‑motivated with good business sense and strong interpersonal skills.

Required skills

• Fault finding and investigation on electrical distribution systems.

• Knowledge of safety standards (IOSH, NEBOSH).
